Stunning Flat-Pack Cabin

Dreaming of building a cabin in the woods? Designer Caspar Schols just made every getaway dream come true

This amazing cabin puts a fresh spin on the classic cabin in the woods. It's not only beautiful, but it's also incredibly flexible - and arrives anywhere in the world as a flat-pack. The ANNA Stay cabin looks like a normal cabin at first glance, but the dwelling's walls can be slid apart to open it up to the outside.

The ANNA Stay cabin structure was inspired by railway buildings for how their walls provide structural stability and can be slid apart to open it up to the outside, allowing its owners to embrace a semi-outdoor lifestyle.

The cabin has four configurations

  1. It can function as a simple closed cabin
  2. You can slide its walls apart to open its center up to the elements completely
  3. You can slide its walls apart, but with a glass roof and walls offering protection from the elements
  4. You can have glass bookending the cabin on either side

There are a pile of photos on the Anna Cabin site showing off different configurations and locations around the world in pristine locations.

The first location opened in March 2021 in the Netherlands: Holenberg. Schols says he wants the home to thrive in its natural habitat to experience living with nature.

"THE FREEDOM TO LIVE WITH THE ELEMENTS IN A COMFORTABLE ENVIRONMENT. HERE, LIFE IS ABUNDANT AND AT THE SAME TIME ABSOLUTE TRANQUILLITY RULES. IMMERSE YOURSELF COMPLETELY AND SURRENDER TO THE ELEMENTS."

How the design works

The outer walls are made up of two ‘shells’ on rails with the inner consisting of a wood and glass frame, while the exterior wall is a metal roofed structure. The shells can be adjusted to create various setups depending on the weather or your mood, from completely closed to sleeping under the stars.

Two styles in flat-pack

Cabin ANNA is a flat-pack design comes in two styles: ANNA Stay and ANNA Meet, a flexible cabin for meetings, yoga, educational purposes. ANNA Stay can be a full-time residence or a holiday retreat as it’s outfitted with all the necessities - a bathroom with shower and flush toilet, fully furnished kitchen, storage, and space for up to two king size beds. A heating system can be installed if needed.

About this house and Caspar Schols

‬In 2016 Caspar Schols designed and build Garden House for his mother‭. ‬The publicity around Garden House led to a number of award nominations‭. which eventually led to the Anna Cabin design. Schols says:

"EVERY HUMAN BEING STRUCTURALLY CONNECTED TO NATURE THROUGH DYNAMIC HOME DESIGN."

Cost and delivery

It'll set you back €87,000 (roughly US$100,000), including furniture but excluding any taxes and building costs, and is available worldwide. It's delivered in one piece or as a flat pack kit that takes roughly five days to assemble, according to the designer.

I note that there are neither quoted glass cleaning costs or pictures of anyone cleaning the glass....
