Second Life Plastic as Food Toys for Dogs

Second life plastics can save your dog from boredom

Think twice before you toss your empty plastic milk bottles, water bottles or yogurt containers in the recycle bin. You can delay the toss and potentially save your garden by using your plastic as a short term toy to entertain bored dogs while you are at the office.

I know this concept isn't for everyone, but if your dog is outside during the day and has a habit of digging up your lawn or garden, using your plastic bottles for pooch's amusement might for for you.

Into a plastic bottle, put some of your pooch's kibble. He will spend hours rolling it around and chomping on it trying to get the kibble out. Yogurt containers with the last remnants still inside will buy you another hour while she licks the inside completely clean and then tosses it around for a little longer.

The toy is usually only good for a couple of days before it is completely squished. By then, you will most likely have another plastic container of bottle anyway.

My dog has never swallowed any pieces of plastic, but obviously this is a consideration if you are making this toy. Don't give her anything with loose pieces of plastic, sharp edges or anything that is brittle. Cut off loose labels.

Of course if you are the type that has a perfect lawn or garden and doesn't want it looking like a small version of the plastic recycling depot, you might want to consider this tip carefully. On the other hand, a happy dog and an in tact garden are attractive alternatives!

I have a tip. Most good quality stuffed children's toys make good toys for dogs. Don't give them poor quality ones as they will chew through the material in seconds and you will have stuffing everywhere. Anything with a sturdy fabric will last for months. Look out for missing ears or legs - that's when it's time for the toy to go. Monday, 1 February 2016
