If you are looking for a new dog or cat, animals shelters are a fantastic way to acquire one. With numerous high quality shelters operating all over Australia, rescuing a pet from a shelter is easy to do and gives the double gift of life to your pet and love to your family.

The period just after Christmas is typically peak time for animals entering shelters, so if you are looking for one, January is an excellent time.

Most shelters will ask you a few questions and help you make sure you and your home can actually manage the dog or cat you choose.

One of the reasons animals end up in shelters in the first place is because new owners simply aren't either physically capability or their property isn't set up for the pet they choose.

If you find yourself unable to care for your dog or cat and don't know anyone who will take it, then a reputable shelter is the safest place to take your pet.
