How to Fix Your Shattered Make Up Compact

We all know how devastating it can be to accidentally drop and shatter your favourite make-up compact

The thought of having to throw away that perfect colour you worked so hard to find and all that money (not to mention all of that pretty packaging ending up in landfill) is devastating. But luckily, you can easily fix your shattered make-up compact easily and get many more happy uses out of  it - all while reducing your beauty waste.

What you will need:

Your make up

Rubbing alcohol

  1. Gather all of the broken pieces of make up back into the container. Crush up all the parts (even the chunks of powder that haven't broken).
  2. Add a few drops of alcohol to the compact and mix together to create a paste. If you accidentally make the paste too runny, don't worry, it will just take a little longer to dry.
  3. Leave the make up compact somewhere to dry overnight. By the next morning your make up will be back to normal!

Science Notes

Rubbing alcohol evaporates much quicker than water does, so it makes it the perfect liquid to remix your broken make up. In comparison water is one of the slowest evaporating liquids, so if you were to remix your make up with water, it would remain in a paste for a considerable amount of time, with the moist environment allowing germs to breed.

However when mixing with rubbing alcohol, the alcohol content sanitizes the powder and evaporates quickly leaving a dry and sanitary environment for your powder.

Although you may have vodka handy around the home and be tempted to supplement the rubbing alcohol for vodka, due to its higher alcohol content, rubbing alcohol really does work better.
