Burberry joins Team ECONYL®

Burberry has joined Team ECONYL® as the big end of fashion town continues to expand it's love affair with the regenerated nylon

Burberry is the latest big fashion brand to launch a collection made entirely from ECONYL®. Even if the move is blatant greening, it's green nonetheless. And tempting as it is to refer to Burberry's 'burning desires' for the environment, this latest piece of greening for anyone who can afford it, is important. It's hopefully a clear signal of intent as part of their broader environmental commitment.

When Burberry made a public commitment to to stop burning excess stock in 2018, after a global brand back lash, CEO Marco Gobbetti, said

“MODERN LUXURY MEANS BEING SOCIALLY AND ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE. THIS BELIEF IS CORE TO US AT BURBERRY AND KEY TO OUR LONG-TERM SUCCESS. WE ARE COMMITTED TO APPLYING THE SAME CREATIVITY TO ALL PARTS OF BURBERRY AS WE DO TO OUR PRODUCTS.”

According to Burberry, the ECONYL® move is the latest in a list of "50 disruptions Burberry is making throughout its supply chain to create a more circular fashion industry." Of course one has to hope that the depth of the company's commitment has moved beyond the previous defence for burning unsold clothes, accessories and perfumes, that Burberry "captured the energy generated from burning its goods."  Heartening. (At least we know that ECONYL® can readily recycle any unsold stock.)

The ECONYL® collection is beautiful and includes a reinvention of Burberry’s lightweight classic car coat, along with bags, backpacks and other jackets. Start saving!
